I decided I needed a little glitter in my life today. So, following a whim (and a pin, of course), I decided to try this little gem:
because I generally have very good luck with Pinterest recipes, projects, crafts etc.
Now, I have to tell you, I was skeptical. It didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me that with a dull, matte finish like regular sugar has…the end result of adding food coloring would be…glitter. I decided…well, maybe something happens to the sugar in the baking process. With 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, some purple gel paste mixed with clear vanilla (because, folks, it doesn’t work with just the gel paste. trust me here.), and a few vigorous shakes in a tightly sealed plastic container…I gave it a go.
Ten minutes at 350…well…it baked out the moisture…but…no sparkle. So, I set the timer for another ten (and let me tell you, vanilla scented sugar at 350 degrees makes the whole house smell awesome), and five minutes later, I could smell it starting to burn. The beautiful lavender had actually browned a bit. And still…not glittering.
It’s sanding sugar, friends. It is most certainly NOT glitter.
That’s what I figured.
Ah, well. On to the next!!
And there is the end result. And my horrible countertop.
(And by the way…this would still be cute on a cupcake…it’s just not glitter.)
Happy Tuesday!
