burlap wreath (pin)

I am in love with burlap. All decorations burlap. It’s a bit of a mess, actually, because…well, burlap is messy. It sheds. But it’s so. cool. looking.

So…I found this awesome wreath…and thought to myself, “I could so make that.” Inspired by pins, I went searching for a tutorial that wasn’t just a gathered, rough-edged wreath (which are cool too, but not what I was looking for). I found this:

I loved this wreath. But when you find something on etsy, you don’t get to have the pattern. And, umm…$75??? For a burlap wreath???

No.

So. I found this Burlap Wreath tutorial from Paintandpleats.com…and figured…how hard could it be. Here’s what I used:

Wreath. Glue Gun and Sticks (5 or 6). Burlap…cut into 4″ strips. I used…hmm…maybe…3/4 of a yard of fabric all together?

Wrap the wreath in burlap…glue well at the ends.

Wrapped.

This part, I have to admit…straight trial and error. I started gluing and sticking and moving and twisting…I finally settled on a method I kind of liked…and it involved the next step…

I kind of pleated the fabric where I was about to glue it to the wreath, glued the pleat, held it till it cooled a bit, then glued it down…at times, I twisted it, flipped it back over itself, glued it in spots that were a little bare…lots of glue, lots of trial and error (hehe…that’s kind of how i live…)…

And Voila!! I decided it needed a bow, so I went here…to make a couple of pinwheel bows  and because I didn’t feel like sewing, hehe, I didn’t. I used wired ribbon instead, and just tied the part shown as sewed in the tutorial in the middle with a piece of twine…then I shaped it the way I wanted it to look…much quicker. Much simpler. I made one larger, one smaller, then looped the top with three lengths of the same ribbon…tied it at the top with some more twine…stuck a nail in my front door…and snapped a picture. It took about an hour from start to finish…and my kids…well I’ll show you what they did while I did this in my next post. Because they’re so awesome…they deserve their own post. 🙂

Happy pinning!! Happy crafting!!

Ahhh!!! I have to STOP!!
